#146 : I have been trawling the net for my next best scarf find and stumbled upon this absolutely gorgeous heavily cabled little number named Gwynned by Lucia Hicks on the Knitty.com site. I must admit I have been coveting big hand knitted cabled scarves since an earlier post … so it may be that … or it may just be the vibrant colour of this piece … but I am thinking that I will just have to knit it up some day (maybe for next winter) because I need another scarf!!!!!!
According to Lucia, this scarf began as an experiment in combining different types of reversible cables to create a deeply textured fabric, using a simple ribbed cable to set off braided cables with balanced knit and purl stitches changing places to produce the same pattern on both sides. All of the cables are done on one side of the work, with purl crosses as well as the traditional knit and knit-purl ones. Clever! and very, very effective don’t you think? All that beautiful work makes me want to hit the knitting needles.
